Antique Diamond Engagement Ring

There are early records out there of the antique diamond engagement ring. The earliest engagement ring that was ever given was in 1477. The Archduke Maximillian of Hamburg gave it to Mary of Burgundy. This ring was set with an antique-cut diamond. These rings were called Art Deco. They were originally mounted with sapphires, emeralds and rubies. In addition, they were always worn on the third finger, on the left hand. This was originally a Roman custom and was named a “betrothal” ring which means truth.
